ebrary Announces Library Center, a Complimentary Online Resource for Librarians and MLS Students

September 8, 2003 – Palo Alto, CA – ebrary® (www.ebrary.com), a leading provider of information distribution and retrieval services, today announced that it has launched a complimentary website for librarians and MLS students. Available today at (http://librarycenter.ebrary.com), ebrary’s new Library Center provides important research materials, industry news and information relevant to librarianship and related fields.

“ebrary is dedicated to serving and providing solutions for library communities,” said Christopher Warnock, CEO of ebrary. “Our goal with the Library Center is to provide an open forum in which librarians, MLS students, and others interested in libraries and library science can access and share valuable information. We look forward to building this collaborative online resource, and encourage others to contribute materials as well as provide us with feedback and suggestions.”

The Library Center currently features a growing database of more than 30 full-text books spanning topics such as digital library development, general collection development, and the history of libraries and librarianship, as well as illustrated guides from the Library of Congress. It also features back issues of Advanced Technology Libraries, a leading industry newsletter that offers a concise monthly review of information technology relevant to libraries, including integrated library systems, the latest electronic products, and online services for public, academic, and special libraries.

Similar to ebrary’s database collections of full-text books, maps, reports and other documents, which the company licenses to libraries throughout the world, the Library Center collection features the following key features and benefits:
  • Simultaneous, multi-user access – ebrary titles are always available, never checked out.
  • Full-text search within and across documents.
  • Advanced research capabilities – ebrary InfoTools™ enable users to interact with every word in every document. By selecting words, users can instantly link to additional information within the collection, or on the Web such as definitions, translations, explanations and more.
  • Bookmarks, highlighting and annotations, which can be saved on a personal bookshelf.
  • Automatic citations.
