New ebrary Partners to Distribute ebrarian Service to Thousands of Libraries Nationwide

April 2, 2002 – Mountain View, CA – ebrary™ (www.ebrary.com), a leading provider of information distribution and retrieval services, today announced that it has partnered with six new regional library networks to distribute its ebrarian™ service throughout the U.S. Partners include The Bibliographical Center for Research (BCR), which serves 3,000 libraries throughout the Western U.S.; Michigan Library Consortium (MLC), which has 700 member libraries throughout Michigan; PALINET, a network of 600 libraries throughout the Mid-Atlantic area; NELINET, a network of approximately 700 libraries in the six New England states; Wisconsin Library Services (WiLS), which serves 500 member libraries in Wisconsin; and OHIONET, which serves more than 500 libraries in Ohio.

“These relationships mark an important milestone for ebrary, and they are enormous validation for our service as nine out of 10 libraries purchase digital resources either through their regional network, consortium or based upon their recommendations,” said Christopher Warnock, CEO of ebrary. “At the same time, these partnerships present new opportunities for our publishing partners, who can efficiently distribute their copyright protected works to new online channels while further promoting education and knowledge sharing.”

ebrarian for Libraries: Multi-User Access to Quality Content at an Affordable Price

ebrary offers an affordable solution for desktop delivery of valuable books and other documents from more than 100 leading publishers including The McGraw-Hill Companies, Random House, Penguin Classics, Cambridge University Press, Princeton University Press, Yale University Press, Taylor & Francis, John Wiley & Sons and many others that integrates with libraries’ existing catalog systems and other digital resources.

Key features and benefits of ebrarian include the following:

Co-branded Website – The ebrarian service is delivered via a custom website, which ebrary creates, hosts and maintains. Co-branded websites never contain advertisements, and they can be customized with libraries’ logos and branding.

Integration – ebrarian integrates with libraries’ digital resources and catalog and administrative processes, specifically through full MARC records for all titles in the ebrary repository.

Authoritative Content from World-Class Publishers – With tens of thousands of titles under contract, ebrary is continuously expanding its collection in key subject areas and will offer periodic content updates to libraries at no additional cost. The majority of ebrary’s titles were published within the past two years.

Customizable Research Tools – ebrary InfoTools™ make it easy for patrons to instantly link to knowledge resources including definitions, biographical information, maps and translations as well as digital resources within the library. Patrons can instantly access these resources when words or phrases are selected. The ebrarian solution also features online annotations, highlighting, bookmarks and more.

Accounting and Reporting Tools – Libraries can use real time activity reports to gain information on usage and transactions in order to make more informed collection development decisions.

PDF Technology – ebrary’s product is based on the portable document format (PDF), which is used by the majority of printing houses worldwide. This enables ebrary to efficiently and cost-effectively grow its collections. PDF technology also ensures that documents maintain the look and feel of the originals, which enhances patrons’ experience.
