ebrary Announces Membership in OCLC
ebrary to Add ebrary Online Collection to OCLC WorldCat

Mountain View, CA – June 12, 2001 – ebrary™ (www.ebrary.com), the leading provider of software for online delivery of copyrighted content, today announced that it has become a member of OCLC (Online Computer Library Center), a nonprofit membership organization serving 39,000 libraries in 76 countries and territories around the world. ebrary will add records of its high-value authoritative documents to WorldCat, the OCLC Online Union Catalog. The initiative will benefit libraries and library patrons throughout the world.

ebrary’s vertical collections of copyright-protected books, periodicals, journals and more will be added to WorldCat, which indexes collections held by individual libraries. Business, finance and computers will be among the first of the vertical collections ebrary will make available through WorldCat. Librarians and patrons will be able to access ebrary documents indexed in the OCLC database through an online library site hosted by ebrary.

"By adding records of their materials to WorldCat, ebrary will help libraries to provide their patrons with instant access to documents not available on the libraries’ shelves," and said Gary Houk, Vice President, OCLC Services. "The cataloging of these electronic materials supports OCLC’s long-standing mission of furthering access to the world’s information."

"As more and more of the world’s information becomes electronic, it makes sense for us to become a member of OCLC, a non-profit organization that is highly respected and utilized by libraries throughout the world," said Christopher Warnock, CEO of ebrary. "The ebrarian solution will allow libraries to cost-effectively expand their collections beyond their physical shelves in a very efficient way."

The ebrarian Solution
ebrary partners with the world’s leading publishers and academic presses to develop online collections in major vertical subject areas. By combining this high-value content with powerful research and comprehension software, ebrary offers partners the powerful and flexible ebrarian solution for e-content delivery.

Publishers, special interest Websites, Internet portals, libraries and e-learning providers can tap new online markets and increase revenues by making their own content securely available online, accessing relevant content from ebrary’s collection or combining content from both. Partners can leverage ebrary’s unique photocopy model, where customers pay only for printing or copying the information they need without subscription or membership fees, or determine a payment model appropriate to their businesses. ebrary shares revenues with publishers and other content providers and its channel partners.

The ebrarian solution is powered by ebrary InfoTools™, which provide advanced research, comprehension and navigation capabilities at the word level.
