ebrary.com Building Revolutionary, Browsable Knowledge Store on the Internet

Seybold Seminars, Boston, February 7, 2000 - ebrary.com, a new privately held Silicon Valley company, today announced it is assembling a brand new kind of Internet-based knowledge store. The company is gathering one of the most comprehensive selections of content accessible via the Web, providing Internet users a brand new way to locate and acquire information, and providing publishers with a new channel to distribute written works and generate revenue.

Led by industry innovators, the Sunnyvale, California-based company has begun to assemble a wide range of content relevant to a projected audience of academics, professionals and the general public. Scheduled to go live in summer 2000, ebrary.com aims to provide the consumer with more selection and a new and better way to search and acquire information while providing publishers a new means to generate audience and sales.

“Until now, the way to protect content on the Web has been to restrict access to it,” said Christopher Warnock, founder, president and CEO of ebrary.com. Using open standards-based secure technology, ebrary.com has developed a way to make rich information accessible to everybody while protecting copyright and returning revenue to the content owners. Today, when a patron walks into a library or bookstore, they are free to browse through the entire collection in order to find desired information. ebrary.com translates this model to the Web.”
